Project T1: Focus on Consumers

Protecting Your Heart, Managing Obesity, and Preventing Pressure Ulcers in SCI

This project will develop both printed and multimedia (electronic, audio, and video) materials to help people with SCI learn how to protect their hearts, control obesity, and prevent pressure ulcers. We will take special care to make sure the materials are easy to understand and use. We will produce them in Spanish as well as in English.

The materials will be freely available for people to use online or to download. Upon request, we will provide printed copies of text. We will also provide DVDs of our audio and video materials. Finally, we will market the materials we develop to peering mentoring and other SCI health programs. This will help knowledge about heart health, obesity and pressure ulcer prevention reach even more people with SCI.

Project T1 will use the knowledge that is produced by the RRTC’s three research projects as follows:

  • To help persons with SCI work with their primary care providers to receive proper heart and related health screening. (Knowledge gained from project R1)
  • To help persons with SCI manage their own diets to prevent obesity and related problems. (Knowledge gained from project R2)
  • To help persons with SCI prevent pressure ulcers through learning the best ways for them to do pressure reliefs. (Knowledge gained from project R3)
