Grant awarded to support SCI Research & Training

The Spinal Cord Injury Research Center (SCIRC) located at NRH recently received a $4 million grant to be awarded over a five-year period for the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) on secondary conditions in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). This project is federally funded/supported by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research and will allow NRH to further extend uts SCU research and training efforts.

The RRTC on secondary conditions will consist of a unique collaborative effort of national leaders in SCI-related research, clinical expertise, support and education organizations, and consumers with SCI. The focus is on further development of knowledge about and/or prevention of selected secondary conditions, specifically cardiovascular disease, obesity, and pressure ulcers after SCI,and then development of education and training tools for professionals and consumers, with a focus on underserved and non-English speaking populations.
